ABSTRACT: The royal prerogative over sturgeon, which has existed since the time of Edward II and continues today. There has been much recent discussion about how the royal prerogative relates to the powers of the president. This discussion, however, has focused on the royal prerogative of making war. A different aspect of the prerogative, the right of the Crown to sturgeon – and whales and porpoises – may illustrate that the incorporation of the royal prerogative into the powers of the presidency may not be as straight-forward as some have argued.
